Services Thursday for Douglas Gauze, worker at TimkenSteel facility

PERRY TWP. – Services will be Thursday morning for a man who died following an accident Monday in the Gambrinus finishing facility operated by TimkenSteel.

Douglas Gauze, 65, of Canton, was operating a machine at the plant when the accident occurred sometime before 10 a.m.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is investigating the accident, along with TimkenSteel officials and United Steelworkers Local 1123.

Details of what happened and why haven't been released.

Gauze is survived by his wife, Teresa, three children and five grandchildren. Service will be at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home at 4041 Cleveland Ave. SW.

The company Local 1123 are providing employees with counseling and assistance as a result of the incident. "The safety and well-being of our employees is a priority," a company spokeswoman wrote.

OSHA officials said the agency has six months to complete an investigation. OSHA can issue citations and propose monetary penalties if it finds violations of workplace safety procedures were factors in the accident.
