Our friends at The Watches TV visited Laurent Jolliet, the last “chain maker” in business in Switzerland according to Marc André Deschoux.
As Jolliet crafts his bracelets and chains fully by hand, Deschoux and crew were able to find out in detail how Milanese bracelets are made, an art form no longer formally taught.

Jolliet was trained in jewelry making when chain making was still part of the coursework and demonstrates here the various techniques required to craft a nearly endless array of bracelet types.
This video is fascinating in its step-by-step explanations and visual demonstrations of the process of making several types of chains – an art form that is practiced nowhere else in the world this way. Everywhere else, making every kind of bracelet, but especially Milanese, is now done either by machine or at least partially by machine.
Jolliet also makes bespoke bracelets on commission.
