1,975 candidates from Kerala to get free training in textile industry

The Union Ministry of Textiles has initiated the SAMARTH scheme that aims to impart expert training to artisans in various trades in the field of textile development. 

As per this project, 1,975 candidates from Kerala would be provided free training. In the first batch that begins in July, 395 candidates would be trained in two centres. Those who are interested in pursuing a career in this field can apply until 30 June.

The training lasts for two months. The Indian Institute of f Handloom Technology in Kannur functioning under the aegis of the Kerala government would oversee the training. (Phone: 0497 2835390. Website: www.iihtkannur.ac.in)

11 trades Training in 11 trades would be provided at the centre in Kannur. These are: Handloom weaver (frame weaver; 30 seats; hand dyeing operator (20 seats); hand-block printing (20), dobby hand loom weaver (20), jakkard handloom weaver (20); CAD operator (15); sewing machine operators (30); pattern makers (20); fabric checker (20); overlock and flat lock machine operators (10); and garment checker (20).

Minimum eligibility for admission has not been mentioned.

How to apply The application, with name, age and educational qualification, should be prepared on white paper. This should then be sent to The Executive Director of the Kannur centre.

There is no application fee.

Balaramapuram centre Training in 8 trades, except CAD operator, overlock and flat lock machine operator and garment checker, are available at the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram.
